Labels define the task
A model may be trained on recordings labelled by situation — waiting for food, isolation or brushing, for example. It then learns audio features that help separate those dataset categories. This can be scientifically useful, but the output means “resembles examples from this labelled context,” not “the cat said this sentence.”
Models can learn the wrong clue
If every food recording contains the same kitchen hum, the system may classify kitchens. Different cats, phones, homes and vocal styles test whether the model generalises. Published cat-vocalisation datasets are valuable, yet small samples and limited contexts remain important constraints.
Questions to ask before trusting an AI result
- What was the model tested to distinguish: a sound, a recording situation or an emotion? Evidence for one task does not validate the others.
- Were the test cats and homes absent from the training data? Repeated recordings from familiar settings can make evaluation look easier than use in a new home.
- Can the tool show the observations behind its answer and leave the interpretation unresolved when evidence is missing? A precise sentence is not a substitute for that explanation.
Why CatMind AI uses more than the meow
CatMind AI combines audio events with video, posture, motion, scene information and the cat’s profile. This cannot create telepathy, but it can make the reasoning more relevant to the recorded moment and expose when there is not enough reliable evidence.
