An emotion is not a visible object
Researchers can code facial actions, posture and behaviour, then test whether patterns differ across known situations. Studies using CatFACS have found facial patterns associated with states such as relaxed engagement, fear and frustration. That supports structured observation; it does not create a universal emoji dictionary for every cat.
A half-closed eye may accompany relaxation, pain, sleepiness or a poorly timed camera frame. Whole-body evidence and change from the individual cat’s baseline matter.
Prefer hypotheses over mind-reading
A careful output might say “the retreat, low posture and reduced approach are consistent with uncertainty or a wish for distance.” It should not claim “your cat feels betrayed because dinner was seven minutes late.” The second sentence is entertaining but untestable.
Validated tools such as the Feline Grimace Scale belong to specific pain-assessment contexts and still do not turn general-purpose AI into a veterinarian.
Use emotion clues to improve choice
The practical aim is not to win an argument about a label. It is to notice whether the cat approaches, freezes, avoids, relaxes or changes after you offer space. CatMind AI keeps observed evidence and possible interpretations separate so the next action can be gentle and proportionate.
New withdrawal, agitation, altered movement, appetite change or unusual vocalisation can have medical causes. Contact a veterinarian rather than relying on an emotion label.
